Terms of Service

Seminary Writing Coach

Last updated: July 21, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Seminary Writing Coach ("the Add-on"), a Google Docs script developed and distributed by Howard Isaacson ("the Developer," "we," "us"). By installing or using the Add-on, you agree to these Terms.

1. What the Add-on is

The Add-on is a Google Apps Script sidebar tool that provides AI-generated writing feedback inside Google Docs, using Google's Gemini API and an API key that you provide. The Add-on offers two coaching modes: Idea Development, for early-stage brainstorming and topic development, and Academic Writing Coach (MDiv), for feedback on seminary-level academic and theological writing.

2. Nature of feedback

The Add-on is designed to ask questions and highlight issues in your writing — such as argument clarity, structure, and theological/academic rigor — rather than to draft or supply finished prose. You remain the sole author of your submitted work. It remains your sole responsibility to review your institution's specific policies on AI-assisted writing tools and to disclose your use of this Add-on if required. The Developer makes no representation that use of this Add-on satisfies any particular institution's or program's policy.

3. Your API key and account

You must supply your own Google Gemini API key to use the Add-on. You are responsible for:

The Developer does not operate, host, or have access to your API key, your documents, or your Gemini usage.

4. License and permitted use

Upon purchase, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Add-on's code (Code.gs and Sidebar.html) for your own individual academic writing. You may not:

  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the Add-on's code, in whole or in part

  • Use the Add-on for any unlawful purpose or in violation of Google's own terms of service for Apps Script, Docs, or the Gemini API

5. No warranty

The Add-on is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or accuracy of AI-generated feedback. AI feedback may be incomplete, inaccurate, or inapplicable to your specific assignment or context — you remain responsible for evaluating and acting on it using your own judgment.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Add-on, including but not limited to academic penalties, grade outcomes, lost work, or Gemini API costs. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the Add-on is to discontinue use.

7. Changes to the Add-on or these Terms

The Developer may update the Add-on's code or these Terms at any time. Material changes to these Terms will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date above.

8. Termination

You may stop using the Add-on at any time by removing the script from your Google Doc. The Developer may discontinue support or distribution of the Add-on at any time, though this will not retroactively revoke your license to use a copy you have already installed.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
